The Central Government has released ₹5,858.60 crore to 14 states impacted by severe flooding, heavy rainfall, and landslides during this year’s southwest monsoon season. The funds are sourced from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and include an advance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), as announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday.
Maharashtra received the largest share, totaling ₹1,492 crore, followed by Andhra Pradesh with ₹1,036 crore and Assam, which was allocated ₹716 crore. Other states benefiting from the financial aid include Bihar (₹655.60 crore), Gujarat (₹600 crore), and Himachal Pradesh (₹189.20 crore). Additionally, Kerala received ₹145.60 crore, Manipur ₹50 crore, Mizoram ₹21.60 crore, Nagaland ₹19.20 crore, Sikkim ₹23.60 crore, Telangana ₹416.80 crore, Tripura ₹25 crore, and West Bengal ₹468 crore.
The MHA highlighted that these states faced significant challenges due to the adverse weather conditions during the monsoon, emphasizing the government’s commitment to support those affected by natural disasters. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, the Modi government stands shoulder to shoulder with the states affected by natural calamities in mitigating the hardship faced by the people,” the statement read.
On-the-Ground Assessments by Central Teams
In a move to address the disaster’s impact comprehensively, the government has deployed Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCT) to several flood-hit states, including Mizoram, Assam, Kerala, Nagaland, Tripura, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Manipur. These teams are tasked with conducting on-the-spot assessments of the damages.
The MHA stated that IMCTs will also be sent to Bihar and West Bengal for similar assessments following recent flooding events in those states. Once the assessment reports are received, the government will consider additional financial aid from the NDRF to assist the affected states further.
Ongoing Support for Flood-Affected States
This latest allocation is part of the Central Government’s broader response to the monsoon disasters this year, with over ₹14,958 crore already disbursed to 21 states. This total includes ₹9,044.80 crore from SDRF, ₹4,528.66 crore from NDRF, and ₹1,385.45 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF).
The government has also provided logistical assistance to the affected states, deploying necessary National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, along with support from the Army and Air Force, to aid in relief efforts.
As states continue to grapple with the aftermath of these natural calamities, the Central Government remains committed to providing essential support and resources to help communities recover and rebuild.
