Tuhin Kanta Pandey Named New SEBI Chairman, Replacing Madhabi Puri Buch

Tuhin Kanta Pandey Appointed as New SEBI Chief for Three-Year Term

The Central government has appointed Finance Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey as the new Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for a tenure of three years. Pandey will succeed Madhabi Puri Buch, whose term as SEBI chief concludes at the end of this month.

A government order confirming his appointment was issued on Thursday. With this move, Pandey will take charge of India’s capital markets regulator, which oversees securities markets and investor protection.

Pandey, a 1987 batch IAS officer from the Odisha cadre, has extensive experience in finance and investment management. As Finance Secretary, he played a crucial role in policy-making, including the privatization of state-owned enterprises and economic reforms.

His appointment comes at a critical time for SEBI, which has been actively working on strengthening market regulations, curbing insider trading, and enhancing investor protection amid India’s growing financial markets.
