In a bizarre incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Machalpur district, a thief offered prayers at a petrol pump office before making off with ₹1.57 lakh in cash. The incident occurred on Saturday night at a petrol station located on the Soyat Kalan – Sujalpur highway, while the employees were fast asleep at the fuel bank.
The entire sequence was captured on CCTV. The footage shows a man, dressed in a blue jacket, entering the petrol pump office. Upon noticing a ‘puja’ (prayer) area inside, he paused, bowed before the deity, and offered a brief prayer, seemingly seeking blessings. Afterward, he began rummaging through drawers in search of cash.
Moments later, the thief noticed the CCTV camera but failed to disable it, unaware that his actions were being recorded. He continued his search and eventually found ₹1.57 lakh in cash, which he stole before fleeing the scene.
The robbery took place while the petrol pump employees were asleep. Once they were alerted to the theft, they immediately ran after the thief but were unable to catch him.
Police are currently investigating the incident, using the CCTV footage as a lead in their search for the culprit. Despite his brief prayer before committing the crime, the thief’s actions have left local authorities shocked and the community concerned about security at petrol pumps during late hours.
