“Adani Group Secures Contract to Deliver 6,600 MW of Power to Maharashtra”

Adani Wins Bid to Supply 6,600 MW of Electricity to Maharashtra

Adani Group has emerged victorious in a significant bid to supply 6,600 MW of electricity to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), marking a major achievement for the company. The contract, awarded at a rate of ₹4.08 per unit, is nearly ₹1 lower than the current procurement cost of electricity in the state.

The winning bid includes a combination of renewable and thermal power. Adani Group will supply 5,000 MW of solar energy from its Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat and 1,496 MW of thermal power from a new ultra-supercritical plant being developed by Adani Power. The power supply is slated to commence within four years, following the final award of the letter of intent.

As part of the deal, Adani Power will provide solar energy at a fixed cost of ₹2.70 per unit for a period of 25 years. The cost of coal-based power will be indexed to coal prices. This long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is a significant step towards meeting Maharashtra’s rising energy demands while focusing on sustainability.

In March, MSEDCL had floated a unique tender seeking 5,000 MW of solar power and 1,600 MW of coal-generated electricity. Adani’s bid was selected just before the implementation of the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, and the award came ahead of the state assembly elections.

Sagar Adani, Executive Director of Adani Green Energy, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “We are excited to collaborate with MSEDCL to meet the state’s growing energy demands through renewable sources. This agreement is a crucial step toward India’s clean energy transition and achieving energy independence,” he said. He added that Adani Green Energy aims to achieve the 50 GW target with its resource-rich sites and strategic portfolio.

Anil Sardana, Managing Director of Adani Power, emphasized the importance of conventional power in stabilizing the grid while integrating increasing amounts of renewable energy. “Adani Power is proud to support Maharashtra with reliable and competitive power, contributing to the state’s economic growth and sustainability goals,” he stated.
