Cabinet Committee Approves Procurement of 240 Aero-Engines for Su-30MKI Fighter Jets

The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved a significant procurement proposal for the Indian Air Force (IAF), greenlighting the acquisition of 240 aero-engines for Su-30MKI fighter jets from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The deal, valued at over ₹26,000 crore, marks a major step in bolstering India’s defense capabilities.

The Defense Ministry announced that the delivery of these aero-engines will commence in one year and is expected to be completed over an eight-year period. The engines, designated AL-31FP, will be produced at HAL’s Koraput division, with an indigenous content of over 54% due to the indigenization of several key components.

This procurement is a crucial move to sustain the operational readiness of the Su-30MKI fleet, one of the IAF’s most strategically significant assets. The introduction of these engines will support the uninterrupted operations of the Su-30MKI aircraft, thereby enhancing the overall defense preparedness of the nation.
