Zepto’s April Fool’s Prank Tricks Customers With Nostalgic Snacks

Quick-commerce platform Zepto took customers on a nostalgic rollercoaster ride on April Fool’s Day by teasing the return of long-discontinued snacks like Cadbury Bytes, Hippo Chips, and Cheetos Tazo Edition—only to reveal it was all a prank.

A viral video shared by an Instagram user captured the clever trick, showing a newly introduced section on the Zepto app called “The Grand Comeback.” The user excitedly clicked on Hippo Chips to add them to their cart, only to be met with a pop-up message that read:
“You’ve Been Fooled!”
“Happy April Fool’s Day. Go prank your friends now.”

The prank sparked massive reactions online, with the video amassing 2.4 million views and over 120,000 likes. Disappointed customers flooded the comments, sharing their heartbreak.

  • One user wrote, “Nah, this is diabolical. Zepto went too far with this one.”
  • Another said, “I got so excited I jumped from my chair… and then the next moment, you broke my heart. Hippo was my love during childhood.”

Not the First April Fool’s Prank by a Brand

Zepto is not the first brand to pull off such a prank. In 2023, Swiggy tricked users by featuring Cadbury Bytes on its platform for April Fool’s Day, only to reveal that the snack wasn’t actually making a return.

While some fans appreciated the creativity, others were left wishing the iconic snacks would actually return—proving just how deeply they remain etched in people’s memories.
