A Texas woman has made a monumental contribution to infant health by setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest individual breast milk donation. Alyssa Ogletree, 36, has donated a staggering 2,645.58 litres of breast milk, surpassing her own previous record of 1,569.79 litres set in 2014.
Ogletree’s selfless donation to the Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas has helped sustain over 350,000 premature and newborn babies. The organization calculates that a single litre of breast milk can provide essential nutrition to 11 premature babies. Based on this, Ogletree’s donation has provided critical nourishment to countless infants in need.
In an interview with Guinness World Records, Ogletree shared her motivation for making such a remarkable contribution. “I have a big heart, but at the end of the day, I’m not made of money,” she said. “I can’t give away money repeatedly because I have a family to support, but donating milk was a way I could give back.”
Ogletree’s journey as a breast milk donor began in 2010 after the birth of her first son, Kyle. When a nurse suggested she donate the excess milk she was producing, Ogletree discovered her passion for helping others by providing much-needed nutrition to babies in need. Since then, she has continued donating milk through the births of her two younger sons, Kage and Kory, and even after serving as a surrogate mother.
Her record-breaking donations were the result of an incredibly disciplined routine. Ogletree pumped breast milk every 3 hours, including overnight, for 15 to 30 minutes. After freezing the milk, she took it to the milk bank, where it was measured on a specially calibrated scale. Despite never being diagnosed with a condition that would explain her overproduction of milk, Ogletree credits staying hydrated, eating healthy, and being consistent with her pumping schedule as the keys to her success.
The record-holder now aims to raise awareness about the importance of breast milk donation, urging other women to consider donating if they can. She hopes to inspire those who may not realize they are in a position to help other mothers and their babies. “I want people to know that they can make a difference, just like I did,” Ogletree said.
Ogletree’s incredible generosity has not only earned her a place in the Guinness World Records but has also made a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of babies and families. Her story serves as a powerful reminder of the profound difference one person can make through small but meaningful acts of kindness.
