Intel has been awarded a $7.86 billion subsidy from the U.S. government to support its semiconductor manufacturing projects, marking a significant step toward boosting domestic chip production. This subsidy, finalized by the U.S. Commerce Department on Tuesday, is part of a broader initiative to revitalize U.S. manufacturing and reinforce national security.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is reportedly in talks to raise billions of dollars to establish a network of Artificial Intelligence (AI) chip factories for semiconductor manufacturing, according to Bloomberg. Altman has engaged in discussions with potential investors, including Abu Dhabi-based G42 and Japan's SoftBank Group. However, the talks are still in the early stages, and a comprehensive list of partners and funders for the venture is yet to be finalized.

A committee under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has proposed the establishment of the India Semiconductor Research Centre (ISRC) with an investment of $2.5-3 billion, aimed at bolstering India's position as a global semiconductor supplier. The ISRC will focus on semiconductor processes, advanced packaging, compound semiconductors, and Fabless design, with plans to commence operations in collaboration with industry and academia in 2024.
