Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday praised the new Pamban bridge in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, calling it a "modern engineering marvel." The bridge, India's first vertical lift railway sea bridge, will replace the existing 105-year-old Pamban Rail Bridge, which had been in operation since 1914. The new structure is set to enhance connectivity, boost tourism, and support high-speed train services.

The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a performance-linked bonus (PLB) amounting to ₹2,028.57 crore for over 11.72 lakh Railway employees, which translates to 78 days' wages for staff including track maintainers, loco pilots, station masters, and technicians. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the decision, highlighting its role as an annual incentive aimed at enhancing railway performance.
