Video: Smoke Billows from Dubai-Bound Emirates Flight at Chennai Airport Prior to Departure

Smoke Erupts from Dubai-Bound Emirates Flight at Chennai Airport, Passengers Unharmed

A Dubai-bound Emirates flight encountered a significant incident at Chennai airport last night, with smoke billowing from the tail of the aircraft just before its scheduled departure. Fortunately, no passengers were on board at the time of the incident.

Video footage captured on the tarmac showed white smoke emerging from the engine compartment of the Boeing 777. The smoke was attributed to an overfilling issue, leading ground staff to swiftly clear the area for safety.

A Chennai airport official stated, “Ground staff alerted pilots, who shut down the engines to prevent escalation. Fire engines rushed to the site to manage the situation, which was brought under control. In the meantime, all passengers were deplaned for a safety inspection.”

The flight was scheduled to take off at 10 PM, with approximately 300 passengers expected. However, due to the incident, the departure was delayed for over two hours, with the aircraft finally taking off at 12:30 AM.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s aviation regulatory authority, has initiated an inquiry into the incident. In response to the disruption, Emirates issued an apology to passengers, emphasizing that the safety of their passengers and crew remains their highest priority. The airline confirmed that following an engineering inspection, the aircraft was cleared to continue its journey to Dubai.
