Sachin Bansal, co-founder of Flipkart, has been making waves in the fintech sector with his startup Navi, founded in 2018 shortly after his departure from Flipkart. In a recent interview, Bansal shed light on the intense work culture at Navi, where he dedicates 80 to 100 hours per week, including weekends, to the company’s growth.
Navi, a fintech powerhouse, offers a range of financial services including personal and home loans, UPI, insurance, mutual funds, and gold investments. Bansal’s commitment to the startup is evident in his relentless work schedule, stating, “First is there is no work from home and then you must come on weekends also, but yeah, I am spending like 80-100 hours a week.”
Despite his demanding schedule, Bansal emphasizes that he doesn’t expect the same level of dedication from others, acknowledging that his approach is driven by the belief that building a successful business requires meticulous attention to detail and relentless effort.
Addressing the topic of remote work, Bansal expressed a firm stance against it, highlighting that work from home was a temporary measure during the Covid pandemic and is not a permanent arrangement at Navi. “We were very clear that we want to be work-from-office. Work from home was a temporary phenomenon in my mind. It was never a permanent one. We are 100 per cent work from office. Zero work from home,” he stated.
Looking ahead, Bansal revealed Navi’s plans for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the coming months, indicating a renewed focus on scaling the company and accessing public markets for further growth. “We tried a year ago. The timing was bad, I think. So, I am hoping that in a few months, once we are ready, we will…” he commented on Navi’s IPO plans.
