“Mother Dairy Raises Milk Rates by ₹2 per Liter in Delhi-NCR”

Mother Dairy Increases Milk Prices by ₹2 per Litre in Delhi-NCR

In a recent move, Mother Dairy has announced a ₹2 per litre hike in milk prices across all operating markets, effective from June 3, 2024. This decision comes amidst rising production costs that have been affecting milk producers for over a year. The price increase is applicable to all variants of milk and is aimed at compensating the producers for increased production expenses.

Despite facing higher procurement costs in recent months, Mother Dairy had maintained consumer prices until now. However, the company stated that the unprecedented heat stress across the country is likely to further impact milk production, necessitating a revision in prices to ensure sustainability for both producers and consumers.

Commenting on the price hike, a Mother Dairy spokesperson mentioned, “The surge in farm prices is only being partially passed on to the consumers, with an effective revision of 3-4 per cent, thereby securing the interests of both the milk producers and the consumers.”

This announcement from Mother Dairy comes shortly after Amul, under the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), also increased milk prices by around ₹2 per litre. Amul attributed this price hike to the overall increase in operational and production costs, aiming to sustain remunerative prices for milk producers and encourage higher milk production.

The dairy industry is facing challenges related to rising input costs, climate impact on production, and market dynamics. Both Mother Dairy and Amul’s price revisions reflect the efforts to balance these factors while ensuring fair returns for farmers and continued supply of quality dairy products to consumers.
