In a significant development for Maharashtra’s automotive sector, Ather Energy, a prominent electric scooter manufacturer, has announced plans to establish its third manufacturing facility in the state. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis revealed the decision, emphasizing the strategic choice of Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC) for this substantial investment.
Mr. Fadnavis took to social media to express his enthusiasm about the investment, stating, “Big investment in Maharashtra in the automotive sector! Welcome to Maharashtra, Ather!” He highlighted that Ather Energy’s selection of Aurangabad for its new state-of-the-art plant underscores the state’s supportive business environment and robust policies aimed at fostering electric vehicle manufacturing.
The chosen location, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), in the Marathwada region, is viewed by Fadnavis as pivotal in leading Maharashtra’s growth trajectory. He underscored the region’s potential, citing effective connectivity via the Samruddhi Expressway, which enhances its attractiveness to investors.
“This investment and Ather’s selection of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is a testament to the fact that this region in Marathwada will now lead Maharashtra’s growth story,” Fadnavis emphasized.
The new facility is poised to make a substantial economic impact, not only bolstering Maharashtra’s position in the electric mobility revolution but also generating significant employment opportunities across the state. Upon commencement of operations, the plant is projected to have an annual production capacity of up to one million units of vehicles and battery packs, contributing significantly to India’s sustainable mobility initiatives.
Ather Energy’s decision to expand its manufacturing footprint in Maharashtra reflects confidence in the state’s industrial ecosystem and its potential to support high-tech manufacturing ventures. The move aligns with broader efforts to promote clean energy solutions and reinforces Maharashtra’s status as a hub for innovation and economic growth in the electric vehicle sector.
