Ixigo’s co-founder and CEO, Aloke Bajpai, has taken social media by storm with a nostalgic post showcasing the journey of the travel booking platform from humble beginnings to a successful Dalal Street debut. The post, titled “how it started” vs “how it’s going,” features two contrasting pictures that highlight the remarkable growth of Ixigo over the years.
The first image, captioned “How it started…,” depicts Bajpai and his co-founder Rajnish Kumar in front of two desktop computers in a one-room office during the early days of Ixigo. This serves as a testament to the company’s humble beginnings and the entrepreneurial spirit that fueled its inception in 2007.
Fast forward to the present, Ixigo made its stock market debut with a bang, ending the day with a substantial premium of over 78 per cent against the issue price of ₹93. The company’s market valuation soared to ₹6,275.87 crore, marking a significant milestone in its journey.
The Dalal Street debut represents the culmination of nearly two decades of hard work and perseverance for Bajpai and Kumar. Despite facing initial challenges, including difficulties in securing funding from venture capitalists, the duo remained steadfast in their vision for Ixigo.
In a Forbes piece published in December 2023, it was revealed that Bajpai returned to India in 2006 after gaining valuable experience during a four-year stint at Amadeus in Europe. He then teamed up with Kumar to launch Ixigo, driven by a passion for revolutionizing the travel booking industry.
Reflecting on their early struggles, Bajpai recalled how one VC had dismissed their potential for success, stating, “Forget funding, I don’t think you will ever make money or grow big.” However, undeterred by such skepticism, the IIT-Kanpur batchmates persisted and turned Ixigo into a leading player in the travel tech sector.
The juxtaposition of the old and new photos shared by Bajpai not only celebrates Ixigo’s achievements but also serves as an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs, highlighting the importance of perseverance, innovation, and believing in one’s vision.
