Delhi-Bound Air India Flight Turns Back to Chicago After 10 Hours : Report

Air India Flight Returns to Chicago After 10 Hours as 11 Out of 12 Toilets Get Clogged

A Delhi-bound Air India flight was forced to return to Chicago after spending nearly 10 hours in the air, as 11 out of 12 lavatories on board became clogged and unusable.

Mid-Air Inconvenience for Over 300 Passengers

Flight AI126, which took off from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on March 6, 2025, was headed for Delhi on a 14-hour journey. However, about four and a half hours into the flight, after crossing Greenland, the crew discovered that almost all the toilets were inoperable, leaving only one working lavatory in the business class.

With over 300 passengers on board and only one functional toilet, Air India decided to turn the plane around and return to Chicago to avoid further inconvenience.

Air India Calls It a ‘Technical Issue’

Following the incident, Air India issued a statement explaining that the flight had to air-return due to a technical issue.

“AI126 operating Chicago to Delhi on 6 March 2025 air-returned to Chicago due to a technical issue. Upon landing, all passengers and crew disembarked normally and were provided accommodation to minimize inconvenience,” said an Air India spokesperson.

Passengers Offered Refunds and Rescheduling

The airline assured passengers that alternative arrangements were being made to fly them to their destination. It also offered full refunds for those who wished to cancel and free rescheduling for others.

“At Air India, the safety and well-being of our customers and crew remain our top priority,” the spokesperson added.
