The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has greenlit six railway projects, with an estimated cost of approximately ₹12,343 crore, announced the government in a statement on Thursday.
These projects, sanctioned under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are set to receive funding from the central government.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the approval of these six multi-tracking projects spanning across Rajasthan, Assam, Telangana, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Nagaland, totaling ₹12,343 crore.
According to the statement, these multi-tracking initiatives aim to streamline operations and alleviate congestion, offering crucial infrastructural development to the busiest sections of the Indian Railways.
In alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘new India’, these projects are poised to foster self-reliance by facilitating comprehensive development in the region, subsequently enhancing employment and self-employment opportunities.
The approved projects, spanning 18 districts in the aforementioned six states, are expected to extend the Indian Railways network by 1,020 kilometers. Additionally, they are anticipated to generate approximately three crore man-days of employment opportunities for residents of these states.
The railway sections included in these projects encompass Ajmer-Chanderiya and Jaipur-Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan; Luni-Samdari-Bhildi in Gujarat and Rajasthan; Agthori-Kamakhya with a new rail-cum-road bridge in Assam; Lumding-Furkating in Assam and Nagaland; and Motumari-Vishnupuram and Rail-Over-Rail at Motumari in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
These projects have materialized as a result of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity. They signify a milestone in integrated planning, facilitating seamless connectivity for the movement of people, goods, and services across the country.
As these projects move forward, they are expected to significantly contribute to the development and modernization of railway infrastructure, further bolstering India’s transportation network.
