In a bid to enhance safety and authenticity on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, X CEO Elon Musk has announced a series of measures aimed at combating bots and trolls. Musk hinted at potential legal consequences for offenders as X appointed new executives to oversee safety and brand protection efforts.
The announcement comes amidst growing concerns over the proliferation of bots and trolls, which can negatively impact user experience and the credibility of content on social media platforms. Musk emphasized the importance of purging bots and trolls, urging users to report any unintended suspensions of legitimate accounts.
In a post on X, Musk stated, “System purge of bots & trolls underway. Please reply to me or @XEng if legitimate accounts are suspended. X Corp will be tracing the people responsible and bringing the full force of the law to bear upon them.” This indicates a strong stance against malicious activities on the platform.
X’s safety team also announced a significant initiative to eliminate accounts that violate rules against platform manipulation and spam. The platform will be casting a wide net to ensure X remains secure and free of bots, reflecting a proactive approach to maintaining a positive user experience.
In addition to combating bots and trolls, X has begun reinstating blue checks to some accounts without requiring the $8 monthly fee. Musk highlighted that accounts with over 2,500 verified subscriber followers will receive their checks back with complimentary Premium features.
