Neeraj Chopra Tops World Rankings Again in Men’s Javelin Throw

Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra has once again claimed the top spot in the World Athletics rankings, overtaking Grenadian rival Anderson Peters. As per the latest update, Neeraj now leads the chart with 1445 points, while Peters follows closely with 1431.

Strong Performances Fuel Neeraj’s Ascent

Chopra’s return to the number one position is credited to his remarkably consistent form throughout the 2025 athletics season. His campaign began with a commanding win at the Potch Invitational in South Africa, setting the tone early in the year.

He then achieved a milestone throw of 90.23m at the Doha Diamond League, not only earning second place but also breaking into the elite 90-metre club—an achievement few javelin throwers can boast.

Competition Heats Up: Nadeem and Weber Close Behind

Following Chopra and Peters in the rankings is Germany’s Julian Weber, currently placed third. Weber impressed the athletics world with a 91.06m world-leading throw in Doha this season.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, the reigning Olympic champion, holds the fourth position with 1370 points, while Jakub Vadlejch of Czechia completes the top five.

Back-to-Back Wins Showcase Chopra’s Elite Status

After his national record in Doha, Neeraj kept up his momentum. He grabbed another second-place finish at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland and later roared back with a win at the Paris Diamond League, registering an 88.16m throw.

He didn’t stop there—just this week, Chopra added the Ostrava Golden Spike title to his list of 2025 victories, reinforcing his dominance in the field.

Rivalry with Peters Tilts in Neeraj’s Favour

The head-to-head battle between Chopra and Peters has seen a clear shift. Neeraj has outperformed Peters in all four of their meetings this year, extending his edge over the Grenadian athlete.

Historically, Neeraj now holds a 16-5 win record in finals against Peters. Their last reversed outcome was back in 2022 at the World Championships in Budapest, where Peters took gold and Neeraj silver.

Next Big Clash: NC Classic 2025

Athletics fans can gear up for another thrilling showdown as Neeraj Chopra and Anderson Peters are set to compete once again at the NC Classic 2025 in Bengaluru on July 5. All eyes will be on the world’s best javelin throwers as they prepare to battle for supremacy on Indian soil.
